The Cambridge Centre for Chinese Theology is pleased to announce that Lux Mundi Inc (USA) has generously offered two PhD scholarships to support doctoral research in Chinese Theology in the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge.
The scholarships will support outstanding doctoral projects that advance the study of Christian theology in Chinese contexts and contribute to wider conversations in global theology and Sino-Western cultural exchange. Successful applicants will join a vibrant research environment at the Faculty and will also have the opportunity to participate in the life and work of the Centre, gaining valuable experience in academic collaboration, research administration, and the wider operation of a university research centre.
Proposed doctoral projects may address, but are not limited to:
- Chinese dogmatic theology
- Chinese philosophical theology
- Hermeneutics and reading the Bible for Chinese communities
- Science-engaged theology in atheistic contexts
- Theology and Chinese literature
- Christian spirituality in Chinese contexts
- Reception history of theology
Lux Mundi will cover the full cost of tuition fees and provide £8,000 per year towards maintenance costs.
How to apply?
Applicants should indicate under Funding Sources that they wish to apply for the Lux Mundi Scholarship when completing their application for the PhD programme.
The application deadline is 15 January 2027.
Applicants eligible for this funding will be assessed using the standard University of Cambridge admissions procedures for PhD applicants. All potential candidates will be interviewed by two academics in the Faculty of Divinity. The Faculty will then propose successful candidates to Lux Mundi. Having made the final selection, Lux Mundi will provide funding directly to the award holders.
One studentship will be available for entry in October 2027, and a second for entry in October 2028.
